We are staying in a luxury cottage on Landal Wirfttal. The park itself is located in Stadtkyll, on a fairly high hill. The houses are located on the hill between the trees themselves. When you’re at the reception, you don’t actually realize that there is an entire park behind it. What you can immediately see is the campsite on the lake, here you can choose from mobile homes, fixed tents or your own camping spot. The park itself is dog friendly, has various facilities and is centrally located for various trips.

For us it was the first time that we went on holiday with our dog, Rozey. That is why it was important for us to choose dog friendly trips. Our first trip therefore went to the Waterfall Dreimühlen in Nohn. This is about a half hour drive from the park. In the village itself there has good signage to a parking lot close to the waterfall, otherwise we would never have found it. Please note that the parking is paid. At the time we were there it cost us 1 € per hour, still quite doable!

From the parking lot it is a short walk to the waterfall. There are several routes, which will give you plenty of opportunities to have a nice walk. Not every path is equally friendly for wheelchair users or people with walking difficulties. We did see enough people with strollers passing by, so there is a good enough road to visit the waterfall anyway. The nature around the waterfall is also very nice to see. If you like to go in the water, there are shallow streams around the waterfall that you can stand in. Nice to cool off when the weather is hot.

After the walk we decided to drive on to Dahlem. Here you will find the Kronenburger See, another touristic part of the Eifel. Around this lake there are several parks, campsites and other accommodations. You will also find Gasthaus Alte Scheune Kronenburg here. If you are not a guest, you can also come and eat here. This is definitely recommended. A German restaurant; good quality food for a fair price. In addition, the staff was also extremely helpful.

The next day we decided to go in a completely different direction. In Schönecken you will find a castle; Burg Schönecken. Personally I like the way Germans give names; simple and clear. This ruin stands on top of the mountain where you have a beautiful view over the village and the valley. You can see where I’m going with this; it is quite a climb uphill. You can park your car at the bottom of the village, or drive up a short distance. We chose to leave the car in the village and did not see a lot of parking spaces in the village uphill.

Here again you have different ways to walk; via the roads of the village or a lot of stairs. We went up the stairs. With this, you will pass a small church with a very nice view, perfect for a little break during the climb. Arriving at the top you can see that this has been worth it. The ruin is beautiful. But maybe even better; the view all around is truly endless. Our way down was via the roads of the village, that was just a bit easier and then you walked a nice round.

After we arrived at the car we decided to tour around the Eifel, also very worthwhile. All this made us hungry again. Luckily we found a nice restaurant during our tour; Hubertushof bei Schopp`s in Kall. A village that doesn’t see many tourists anymore, although the food and atmosphere here in this German restaurant is worth the stop. The owner is a very sociable German who likes his work very much and wants others to enjoy it. Don’t forget to bring cash here, you can’t use your card. Full and satisfied we went back to our house, ready to go back to the Netherlands.
