Ardennes nature
Time to enjoy the best of the Ardennes; the nature. The Ardennes is a vast area with different rivers. We are staying close to the river Semois. The Semois runs through the south of the Ardennes and ends in France where she flows into the river Maas. The weather is great during our stay and we really have to enjoy the river.
Close to our Bed & Breakfast in Mortehan there are different places to walk into the Semois. The downside of these places are that there are barely any shadow spots. On a hot summer day, this is a must. Therefore, we drive to Herbeumont where you can find the campsite Arnocamps, directly at the river. The river runs through the forest, which results in plenty of shadow.
You can park your car in the street of the campsite and continue on foot to the forest. Fairly quickly you can find different spots in the shadow to enjoy a day at the river. We decide to stay in one of these places close to the campsite to enjoy our first steps in the river. The flat stones at the side are covered in algae but when you continue to the stream, you can enjoy clean water and clean feet.
You can also continue on further into the forest to discover other places alongside the Semois. When you continue the path along the Semois, you’ll end up at L’Antrogne. Here the river Antrogne joins the Semois. Here it is possible to barbeque and there are picknick tables available. It is also very easy to walk into the river from this place. Considering corona times, the only negative side of this place is that it is a fairly popular place and it quickly fills with people.
If you want more peace and quiet, there is a big pebble beach in between the campsite and L’Antrogne. The Semois also runs directly next to this beach. You will find yourself in the middle of nature and you can enjoy it with your feet in the water. Great to find some rest.
Next to this beautiful place, there are also a lot of other different places to enjoy the nature. On the road from Mortehan to Herbeumont, there is a parking close to the water. Next to the parking you can find a big field directly at the Semois. Unfortunately, here the reed blocks the way to the river. It is also worth driving through the small roads and discover the Ardennes for yourself. There is more than enough to see and definitely worth your time.
