Quarantine time
When you’re not able to go out, see friends, do any of your usual hobbies; you start to think. Well, at least, that’s what I did. The result of this chain of thoughts is what you’ve stumbled upon. I’ve decided to (with some help) build a website and start a blog about travelling. Crazy time to do so, since we cannot travel that much. At this point in time, the rules of the quarantine are less restricted than the past couple of months. So in a way, I’ve build the website at precisely the right time.
During the first months of quarantine, we were able to go out and have a walk with one other person. With respect to the 1,5 meters, of course. My friend lives half-an-hour walk away from me, so we decided to meet up in the middle and see wat this area of Rotterdam has to offer. We were not disappointed. We started in the area ‘Katendrecht’, walking all the way to the ss Rotterdam. A ship that’s not sailing anymore and offers a range of facilities and activities. Definitely something to look into when this crazy time is over.
From here, we started to walk towards the area ‘Wilhelminapier’ at ‘Kop van Zuid’. It is a nice walk along the river ‘Maas’. Here you have a good view of the ‘Erasmusbrug’. It is also already possible to see the ‘Wilhelminapier’ with all its buildings. Ending up at the ‘Deliplein’ there is a bridge that connects ‘Katendrecht’ with the ‘Wilhelminapier’. The ‘Deliplein’ looks a bit empty, but the restaurants offer take-away, so we won’t need to miss them much.
The ‘Wilhelminapier’ has much to offer. There is a cruise terminal, which made my hearth ache when I walked past. I hope we can make use of it soon. You can find the nhow hotel which has a bar at the seventh floor with an outside terrace. Here you have a great view over the city. Also not a great time to visit at this moment, but there will be a time in the future when we can enjoy this again. Talking and walking, we made new plans to meet up next week to keep our mental health. The next week, we decided to grab a pizza and head to the end of the pier.
We weren’t the only ones with the idea, but there was still plenty of space to sit safely. Rotterdam offers plenty of areas to enjoy the outside, even when the terraces are closed for business. We finished our pizza, enjoyed the sun and making plans for visits in the future. Being away from your house definitely improves your mental health. It is nice being with friends, even though we have to respect the 1,5 meters for our physical health. Stay healthy, mentally and physically!
